How Early Should I Book Movers?

So, you’ve decided to move. Congratulations! There are many things to mull over once you decide to move, but there are two main factors to consider when booking a moving service -where and when. As you begin your search for a reputable Pittsburgh moving company, Gardner Moving has some advice on why booking as soon as possible will add ease to the exciting, but tasking, the process of packing up for your next endeavor.

Off-Season Moving: Fall, Winter or Spring

Moving Within Pittsburgh: 2 to 4 Weeks
Life happens fast. Maybe you’ve outgrown your home. Maybe business is booming. Whatever the reason, it is best to give your moving company a two to four-week lead time to get you packed up and moved into your new home or office.

Moving Across the State: 4 to 8 Weeks
You love Pittsburgh – we all do! But there are reasons some folks must part ways with the Steel City and move to another area of the state. We suggest booking at least four to eight weeks in advance.

Moving Out of Pennsylvania – 8 Weeks
And then there is the occasional instance you may need to leave Pennsylvania altogether. If you’re moving out-of-state, it’s ideal to get on your mover’s schedule at least eight weeks in advance.

Peak Season: Summer
While summer has come and gone, if you find a new home or office space over the course of the next year, book early for the summer peak season. Summer is when most people move, so schedule with a Pittsburgh moving company sooner than later.

During the summer, we suggest scheduling:

8 weeks in advance for a Pittsburgh move
8 to 12 weeks for in-state moving
12 to 16 weeks for out-of-state relocation

Helpful Advice on Moving

Overall, moving is a process – especially if you’ve been in your home or office for a long time. While there are instances you may need to move quickly, the more time you have to pack up your belongings, the smoother the process will be.

Moving can be just as much emotional as it is physical. Having a set, but longer window of time scheduled to move will allow you to reflect and part ways with things you may have held on to. Old trophies, kids’ artwork, and other mementos – give yourself enough time to go through these things.
Toss, donate or sell the items you’re ready to part with.

Don’t toss things into random boxes. Take this opportunity to organize for your future.
Label everything. Unpacking happens in stages – knowing what’s in each box is extremely helpful.
